What can you feel during treatment?
Dental implants are usually placed under local anaesthesia. Once the area is adequately numb, sharp pain is not expected, although pressure, vibration or movement may be noticeable. Tell the dentist immediately if you feel pain. Experiences vary, so a completely pain-free course cannot be promised for everyone.
After the numbness wears off
Tenderness, swelling and occasional bruising can occur. Recovery depends on the extent of surgery, any additional bone procedures and your health. Follow the aftercare and review instructions given to you. Discuss pain relief in the context of your medical conditions, allergies and existing medicines; do not change prescribed treatment yourself.
When should you seek help?
Contact your treating team promptly for worsening or uncontrolled pain, fever, discharge with an unpleasant taste, or bleeding that does not stop. Difficulty breathing or swallowing needs urgent medical assessment.
