Similar language, different restorations
A crown and a veneer are not the same treatment. A crown surrounds and covers the visible portion of a tooth. A veneer is a thin restoration mainly covering the front surface. A material name such as zirconia does not, by itself, tell you which restoration is being proposed.
Why might each be considered?
A crown may be considered when a tooth has lost substantial structure or needs support. A veneer may suit selected changes to the colour or shape of suitable teeth. Photographs alone cannot determine the choice: remaining healthy tooth structure, bite, gum health and grinding habits matter.
Questions before treatment
Ask how much tooth structure would be removed, whether there are more conservative alternatives and what maintenance involves. Removing tooth tissue during preparation is irreversible. Either restoration may need repair or replacement over time, and neither makes the natural tooth immune to decay. Existing tooth and gum problems should be assessed first.
